Osborne Clarke are looking to bring on a FinOps Manager to continue to develop our FinOps capability after a period of change & transformation within the IT department.
This role will be pivotal in the continued development and implementation of our FinOps framework, establishing robust cloud cost governance and ensuring we manage and optimise our cloud expenditure effectively across the firm.
This is a permanent position offering the chance to influence change and make a real difference to the service we offer, based in our Bristol office offering hybrid working.
The role
The FinOps Manager will be a key member of our IT Strategy & Architecture function, sitting within IT FinOps and working closely with the Head of IT Architecture & Infrastructure. You will collaborate with Finance, IT, Engineering, OCS, HR and Risk & Compliance, as well as the Change & Transformation team, to align budgeting, forecasting and cost allocation processes and embed cost awareness into our cloud architecture and DevOps workflows.
You will drive the continuous review and improvement of how we manage cloud costs, using data-driven insights to track and optimise our cloud investments. Acting as the key point of contact for cloud financial matters, you will foster a strong FinOps culture and promote effective communication and mutual understanding across Business Services and Osborne Clarke more broadly.
As a member of the IT Department, you will have a heightened awareness of the risks associated with elevated access permissions and information security, ensuring that your actions are undertaken in line with our Information Security Policy and current best practice.
Other key responsibilities include:
FinOps Strategy & Governance
- Develop and implement the firm’s FinOps framework, ensuring alignment with industry best practices (FinOps Foundation principles).
- Establish cloud cost governance, policies and controls to manage cloud expenditure effectively.
- Define and maintain KPIs and financial reporting to track and optimise cloud investments.
- Collaborate with Finance, IT and Engineering teams to align budgeting, forecasting and cost allocation processes.
Cloud Cost Optimisation & Efficiency
- Analyse and optimise cloud usage to reduce waste and improve efficiency while maintaining performance and security.
- Implement cost-saving measures, such as Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and right-sizing resources.
- Drive automated monitoring and alerting for cloud cost anomalies and trends.
- Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to negotiate contracts, discounts and pricing models for cloud services.
Operational Excellence & Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to integrate cost-awareness into cloud architecture and DevOps workflows.
- Foster a FinOps culture within Osborne Clarke, promoting awareness and accountability for cloud spend across teams.
- Provide training, workshops and enablement to improve financial literacy among technical teams.
- Act as the key point of contact for cloud financial matters, vendor management and cost optimisation strategies.
Data-Driven Insights & Reporting
- Develop real-time dashboards and reporting tools to provide visibility into cloud spend, usage trends and cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct regular FinOps reviews with leadership to ensure cost-effectiveness and alignment with business goals.
- Utilise native cloud FinOps platforms (Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer) to generate insights and recommendations
Collaboration & Common Business Services Responsibilities
- Provide professional support to Osborne Clarke fee earners, support and Business Services so that our clients receive consistently excellent services.
- Understand and adopt the principles of acting as a professional service provider.
- Contribute to the continuous review and improvement of processes.
- Promote a culture of mutual understanding through effective communication both within Business Services and Osborne Clarke in general.
We are looking for
- You will be an experienced FinOps or cloud financial management specialist, with a proven track record of driving cloud cost optimisation and governance in cloud environments.
- Ability to engage stakeholders and find alignment/consensus in the FinOps governance of solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels, internally and externally.
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders’ strategic thinking in line with organisational priorities.
- Ability to communicate FinOps concepts in an engaging manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to demonstrate the impact of FinOps and clear return on investment.
- Understanding of ISO 27001.
- Strong understanding of public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their pricing models.
- Expertise in FinOps best practices, cloud financial governance and cost management frameworks.
- Experience working with cloud cost management tools (e.g. ServiceNow, Cloudability, CloudHealth etc).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex cost data into actionable insights.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across IT, Finance and leadership teams.
Desirable
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional qualification.
- Experience in legal or professional services environments.
- Familiarity with ITIL, Agile and DevOps methodologies.
