After a period of sustained growth and continued investment in our Sales and Marketing function, Osborne Clarke is looking to appoint a Business Development Assistant to support three of our key sectors from our Bristol or London office.
This role will play an important part in helping our sector teams deliver client-focused business development and marketing activity, working closely with Business Development Managers and Executives across the firm.
This is a permanent position offering hybrid working.
The role
The Business Development Assistant will be a key member of our sector-focused business development team, helping to deliver a wide range of activities including events, bids, marketing campaigns, research and reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in business development and marketing within a leading law firm. Prior BD or marketing experience is not essential: we provide internal training and coaching and are open to sponsoring an external marketing qualification for the right candidate.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues in Business Development, Marketing, Events and our legal teams to support the firm’s commercial priorities.
Other key responsibilities include:
Marketing & communications
- Prepare and format marketing materials, carrying out first-line proofreading and brand checks to ensure quality, accuracy and brand consistency.
- Support the creation of PowerPoint presentations, applying Osborne Clarke templates and updating slide libraries.
- Plan, send and track internal and external mailings, and help manage mailing lists.
- Upload and update marketing content on Osborne Clarke’s external website and intranet.
Events
- Assist with the planning, coordination and delivery of sector event programmes (both virtual and in-person).
- Help ensure a smooth delegate experience, from invitations and registrations through to follow-up.
Bids, awards & credentials
- Support Business Development Managers and Executives in developing high-quality, accurate and on-brand credentials, case studies and bid/pitch documents.
- Assist with awards and legal directory submissions by collating matter lists, formatting submissions and tracking deadlines.
Core BD support & data management
- Update and maintain sector credentials trackers and databases so information is current, accurate and easy to access.
- Build and circulate clear, insightful reports and dashboards from firm systems (e.g. CRM, email and event platforms, web analytics) to support decision making and monitor progress against KPIs.
- Maintain orderly, searchable electronic filing for BD and marketing activities.
- Support the induction of new fee earners by helping them get up to speed with BD processes, house styles and toolkits.
Research & targeting
- Carry out desk research to support client relationship development, sector initiatives and targeting.
- Help gather and organise market, client and competitor insights to inform BD activity.
Meetings, follow up & administration
- Attend sector meetings; take notes, circulate actions and track progress through to completion.
- Support BD mailbox and calendar management by triaging shared inboxes, scheduling sector meetings and keeping action logs up to date.
- Track expenditure against budget and support invoice processing by preparing files for approval and maintaining status updates.
General responsibilities
- Contribute to the continuous review and improvement of processes within the BD and Marketing team.
- Act as an ambassador for Osborne Clarke in all direct and indirect contact with clients and potential clients.
- Promote a culture of mutual understanding and effective communication across sales, marketing and legal teams.
We are looking for
- A genuine interest in marketing and business development, and a desire to build a career in this area.
- Exceptional organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
- A proactive, self-starter mindset with the ability to take ownership of tasks and projects.
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with confidence working with stakeholders at different levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a clear, succinct writing style.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Curiosity and a desire to learn, develop and progress.
- Willingness to explore new and better ways of doing things, including using new technologies and tools.
