We are looking
for an enthusiastic and ambitious solicitor at Associate Director level to join
our highly regarded national non-contentious construction team based in either
Bristol or London with a focus on energy and energy transition projects.
We are
specifically looking for candidates with experience in advising on the drafting
negotiation of EPC, BOP, supply and O&M contracts for renewables, energy
storage, wind and/or grid stability projects. The successful candidate will be
able to demonstrate the ability to lead negotiation meetings (working alongside
a junior associate) and to guide and manage client stakeholders through the
negotiation process.
This is a
fantastic opportunity to join a well-respected team with a wide variety of
interesting work and clients, and a real opportunity to grow and develop your
own practice.
The practice
Our
non-contentious construction practice is truly comprehensive in scope and
features leading work on a national scale and is a practice that the firm is
actively looking to expand to compliment and support Osborne Clarke's strategic
direction, of which energy and energy transition is front and centre.
Our work
ranges from initial procurement advice and legal project management, through to
negotiating complex construction agreements, typically based on FIDIC or NEC
forms in the energy sector. Our work typically forms part of a wider a project
team and we work closely with our energy regulation, planning, real estate,
corporate and project finance teams.
We often
remain involved in projects during the delivery and operational phase,
providing advice on contract management and variations, working alongside our
contentious construction team on claims management and defects advice.
We advise
clients who are leaders in their fields, including Foresight, RWE, Ameresco,
Octopus, Equitix, National Grid, Conrad, Bluefield and Downing.
The team
The
non-contentious construction team is led by partners Phil Davies, Alexandra
Gower, Duncan Parker and Nicholas Grewal and is based across our Bristol &
London offices. Duncan and Nicholas focus on our energy and infrastructure
clients specifically and the successful candidate will work closely with them
to service our existing client base and expand the practice over the coming
years.
The wider team
comprises 1 Legal Director, 2 Associate Directors, 6 Senior Associates, 2
Associates, 2 Trainees and 1 Paralegal.
Technical
skills and experience
As this is a
senior role, you will have experience of managing the construction aspects of
complex matters, taking the lead in contract negotiations and supervising
junior lawyers where appropriate. In particular, you will have experience of
negotiating agreements based on the FIDIC and NEC suites as well as bespoke EPC
and O&M arrangements. You will be used to working on matters where there
are multiple interested parties (particularly in the context of a project
finance-led structure).
You will be
highly motivated and interested in your sectors and be committed in relation to
the ongoing growth of our sector expertise.
Your career
development
Like all our
lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development
programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:
- clear
expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
- high
quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
- thorough
assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
- robust
technical training with early skills based development, increasingly
tailored to you; and
- reward
for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or
tenure.
