Role profile

We have a great opportunity for someone to join us as our Knowledge & Information Assistant. This is a permanent position, based out of our Bristol office. The role can either be 4 or 5 days a week, working on a hybrid basis.

The principal purpose of this role is to support colleagues in the Knowledge & Information Services team – particularly the Senior Knowledge & Information Specialist – to provide a high quality legal library service to enable lawyers and others across the business to get the most from our extensive knowledge resources. In turn this enables our teams to provide a great service to Osborne Clarke's clients.

The team

Our welcoming team of four is an integral part of the larger Knowledge Management team, which provides a variety of essential services to the firm, including Intranet management, Business Research, and Information Services. This team sits within a larger, highly supportive, innovative and purposeful Knowledge Team. Our Knowledge Team consists of 24 Knowledge Lawyers and 16 Knowledge-focused professionals, all currently based in the UK. You will support the delivery of critical legal, regulatory, market and client knowledge to the firm. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in information services within a busy and experienced team, supported by excellent learning and development resources.

Key responsibilities

  • Regularly communicating with a wide network of suppliers. Communications may include ordering of library materials, requests for usage data, setting up demos, arranging training dates, clarifying pricing information, supporting with negotiations and terms of use.
  • Keeping our library records in great shape, including updates and amendments to our library catalogue, contract management system, invoice records, intranet pages and supplier contact information.
  • Playing an active part of our research service to the business, responding to requests for access to resources, company searches, case/legislation requests and news articles.
  • Creating and delivering regular current awareness alerts to fee earners and others in the business.
  • Supporting the updating and maintenance of our hard copy materials in the main library and team libraries.
  • Any other ancillary duties that may be required to ensure the efficient creation and operation of the Library service.

What we're looking for

This role will suit someone who enjoys a balance between research, administration and people facing tasks. Prior research experience isn't required, but you will need the ability to critically evaluate information, questioning its authenticity and spotting potential biases. You'll also need to demonstrate the following:

  • Confidence using new information systems, taking ownership of own learning.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on the target audience.
  • Ability to conduct and deliver desktop research.
  • Ability to evaluate whether information is trustworthy, i.e. knowing how to establish its authenticity, accuracy, currency, value and bias.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisational skills, able to manage own workload with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and external suppliers, working well within a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel.
